Top 10 Natural Gas Producing Countries in the World

The natural gas reserves are unequally distributed around the world. The largest gas fields in the world are in the middle East and former; the Soviet Union with 40 to 35% respectively. Often the oil gas fields are also containing gas as about 1 m cube of oil is always accompanied by 85 cubic meters of natural gas. Recently Saudi Arabia has found the capacity of about 764,554 meter cubic per day.The production of this field could reach up to 1.4 millions cubic meters. On the other hand, Qatar and Iran are also part of the top ten gas producing countries.

1. Russia:

Russia has the world largest natural gas resources of any state on earth. It is also the second largest coal reserves and the eighth largest oil reserves. It is 32% of world proven natural gas reserves. Russia has identified the sector as being of keys importance. The division of natural gas as a primary energy source is very large as compared to the rest of world. Russia also has the world biggest natural gas reserves that are principally owned and administered by the Russian monopoly Gazprom, which produces 94% of Russia’s production. In 2011, Russia was the world’s biggest producer with 677 billion cubic meters production. It is also the largest gas exporter with 196 billion cubic meters.

2. Iran:

Iran is at the 2nd position having natural reserves about 1,046 trillions cubic feet or 15.8% of world’s total reserves. It has the world’s second-largest reserves after Russia. As it takes approximately 5,850 cubic feet of gas to equal the energy content of 1-barrel of oil, Iran’s reserves represent the equivalent of about 216 billion barrels of oil. There are 205 oil reservoirs and 92 reservoirs.Iran still has immense potential for new significant discoveries.

3. Qatar:

The natural gas in Qatar covers a large portion of the world supply of natural gas. Qatar contains 14% of all acknowledged natural-gas reserves, as the world’s third-largest reserves, behind Russia and Iran. The major portions of Qatar’s natural gas is discovered in the massive offshore North Field, which holds an additional 450 trillion cubic feet.In 2009, Qatar generated 3.15 trillion cubic feet of it. During 2009, Qatar exported over 2.4 trillions cubic feet of its production.

4. Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia is placed at the fourth level in the list of top ten countries having highest gas resources. It has one of the largest reserves of natural gas in the Gulf. Proved reserves are over 7 trillion cubic meters .production in 2009 reached 3 trillion cubic meters of production. A portion of One-third of this reserve is found in the Ghawar. Saudi Arabia is now increasing investment, but for use in the domestic power generation market.

5. United States:

The United States is ranked at the fifth position because of its Established natural gas reserves that rose 9.7 percent to reach a record 354 trillions cubic feet at the end of 2013. Using the twin technologies of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, the United States has become one of the world’s largest producer of natural gas. Where, in 2013, estimates of reserves in Pennsylvania rose 37 percent adding to its reserves. Certified reserves also grew significantly in Arkansas, Colorado, North Dakota, Ohio, and Texas.

6. Turkmenistan:

Turkmenistan ranked at sixth position in the top ten list having evaluated proven reserves of 265 trillion cubic feet as of January 2015. It is the sixth largest natural gas reserve holder in the world. The Galkynysh Natural Gas Field is the world’s second largest field. In September 2013, Turkmenistan announced the start of commercial production at Galkynysh. Turkmenistan the hydrocarbon-rich country needs adequate pipeline infrastructure to export greater volumes of hydrocarbons. To increase exports, Turkmenistan and foreign partners are investing in pipelines for transportation of it.

7.United Arab Emirates (U.A.E):

The United Arab Emirates has 7th top global proved natural gas reserves that reached above 6 trillion cubic meters. The global production in 2009 was 3 trillion cubic meters. The UAE has the world’s seventh-largest proved reserves of both oil and natural gas, estimated at 97.8 million barrels and 215 trillion cubic feet respectively.respectively. Abu Dhabi has a history of welcoming private sector investment into its upstream oil and gas exploration. Due mainly to geographic realities influencing transportation costs, the UAE exports minimum quantities of oil and gasses to the United States. Nevertheless, the UAE is a major oil and gas supplier to the international market.

8. Nigeria:

Nigeria is ranking at the eighth position with proven reserves of 260 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Nigeria’s Reserve is triple the nation’s crude oil resources. Nigeria is reputed to be the largest gas flaring country in the world. By not fully harnessing its resources, Nigeria loses an estimated 18.2 million U.S. dollars daily.

9. Venezuela:

At the year of 2013, Venezuela has the eighth-largest proved gas reserves in the world and the largest in South America. Though, poor transportation and distribution infrastructure has prevented it from making the most of its resources, so it comes to the ninth-largest in the world. More than 70% of domestic gas production is consumed by the petroleum industry. The leading company in this file is PdVSA. The largest private natural gas producer is Repsol-YPF.

10. Algeria:

Oil and gas productions are key sectors of Algeria’s marketplace and economy. It has high reserves of shale gas is therefore placed in good position at the worldwide level for shale production. In Algeria, the Energy Information Administration on non-conventional reserves places the country at the third position in the world. Since 1969, Algeria has been a member of OPEC and started its oil stock in 1958. Today the 95 percent of the overall exports are associated with oil and gas. The rich reserves of it should be found in Ghadames basin, a Libyan city at the border with Algeria and Tunisia. The Algerian government has also authorized development activities of oil and shale gasses.
